    Standard RoadRover i11 iGo8 TMC finds stations, but continues searching

    I use iGo8 (8.3.5.231128 from the download section) on my RoadRover, which works fine. I have a GNS TMC-module (bought through Strados), which seems to work fine.

    When I set a fixed frequency to a radio station which has TMC, I receive traffic information and iGo can work with that. (In the Netherlands we have many radio stations with free TMC).

    But when I set iGo to search automatically for TMC-stations, it finds the stations, including those with strong signals, but after 1 or 2 seconds continues to search for other stations. This way, it doesn't receive the traffic information, because it doesn't stay on the right frequency long enough.

    I would like iGo to search automatically, because when I drive, the TMC-radio stations change frequency from one (part of the) country to the other.
    Is there any way to stop iGo to continue searching after it has found a working TMC-radio station?

    I couldn't find this in the forum, but if you can point me to the solution this would help me as well.

    Hmm, that seems to be a very simple issue, but a little bit tricky to solve.
    Pls post the [TMC] section of file sys.txt and file system.ini (folder save\ .....)

    Thanks for your quick respons, again, Strados!
    Sys.txt does not have a TMC-section (I would post the whole text file, but I don't know how to do that with the "spoiler" bar).
    TMC-section of system.ini:
    [tmc]
    saved_config_available="1"
    saved_config_classname="GNS_GPSTMC_SOURCE"
    saved_config_portname="COM"
    saved_config_port="3"
    auto_tuning="0"
    saved_last_frequency="926"
    saved_last_tuning_mode="0"

    As you can see, I now have auto-tuning switched off.

    Tuning mode seems to be not saved at your iGO8.

    At my iGO8, which I sometimes use for tests, [TMC] looks like this:

    [tmc]
    saved_config_available="1"
    saved_config_classname="GNS_GPSTMC_SOURCE"
    saved_config_portname="COM"
    saved_config_port="6"
    auto_tuning="1"
    saved_last_frequency="1042"
    saved_last_tuning_mode="1"

    Try it. Only the port number must be 3 at your i11 unit.

    I don't know how to do that with the "spoiler" bar).
    While writing a text, click on "Erweitert" (extended) which will display an extended tool bar on top. The icon [+] will insert this: [spoiler][spoiler]. In the middle you can insert (copy&paste) a script or other extended text which will be hidden after finish your post.

    Thanks, Strados! I tried this and the settings are saved, see attached sys.txt and system.ini.
    It didn't help, though. Sometimes it finds a station with TMC and stays on this frequency for 10 seconds, but most of the time it finds a TMC-station and continues searching almost straight away. One possible explanation I am considering is that iGo8 has no tolerance for disruption of the signal, even for a fraction of a second. The station I use when I set it to a fixed frequency at 92,6Mhz is quite stable and supplies good TMC-info. But when it is on auto-tuning, it just moves on after a couple of seconds.
    I have tried moving the cables (antenna, TMC-receiver, USB-cables) around behind the unit to prevent any electromagnetic interference, if that was there, but this had no effect.

    Does anybody know how to increase the tolerance or a waiting time for the signal to be restored?

    Just to be sure, here are my complete sys.txt

    Spoiler

    and my complete system.ini

    Oh shit. I know on Navigon timeout for checking RDS data (incl. TMC) can be setup individual. I changed it from 15 sec by default to 5 sec. But I don't know if this is possible on iGO8 too.

    I know on Navigon timeout for checking RDS data (incl. TMC) can be setup individual.
    I can think of at least 2 reasons why it would be smart to test with other navi-software:
    1) is the problem caused by iGo8, or something else?
    2) can I find different navi-software that works the way I want it to and solve the problem that way?

    @Strados: I would like to try Navigon, could you give me some tips about how to set it up? Which version should I try, do I need MixSerDrv, do I need anything else? Of course I can figure out the installation myself, I'm not asking for a manual, but any help in the general setup will speed that up.

    I think this will be a good starting point:

    Yes, do it.
    On this version of Navigon 7.7.6 all setups are already done for Roadrover i11.
    Please follow all instructions, JSC wrote at his download (I translated for you):

    - well running Navigon 7.7.6 with TMC, Panorama View, City View and Voice control.
    - It's plug&play for RoadRover i11
    - TMC (Port 3), GPS (Port 1, 57600 Baud)

    - Copy these 2 folders (mixSer and Navigon) into root of your SD card (don't create any other folder)

    - without any maps or POIs (please download your own).

    - For use of PV, CV and VC following *.nfs files (Q2/2015) additional files in folder "map" are needed:
    Terrain_EU.nfs
    GTACityModels_EU_xxx.nfs
    PhonemeV3_EU.nfs

    - path: /MixSer/MixSerNaviStarter.exe

    This seems to work - when I had downloaded and added the maps it worked straight away. This version also has all of the language files and voices. Thanks, JSC!

    Strangely enough it didn't "catch" the TMC from the station I often use with iGo8 at 92,6Mhz. But Navigon found other stations, I get TMC and it stays stable. It looks like TMC messages are coming in much slower than with iGo8, but I can't test that easily.
    I would like to know how to block certain frequencies (stations with limited or useless TMC), but haven't yet found out how to do that. I'll do some more reading on the forum.
    We'll be trying out Navigon for some time - the user interface takes some getting used to for us ;-)

    Not relevant for me, but maybe for others: voice control works on this version. It might be useful when driving, but using the on-screen buttons and keyboard is much faster.

    If anybody knows how to solve my question about iGo8 I'm still interested, but for now I will be using Navigon.

    Yes, that's well known.

    If anybody knows how to solve my question about iGo8 I'm still interested,
    Did you ever try another iGO8 package ?

    Yes, when I bought the RoadRover unit, I got an iGo8-version on an SD-card with it. This had the same issue, so I tried a newer and cleaner version (I saw al sorts of entries in sys.txt that I felt did not work in my original iGo-version). The newer version I used is in the download section [Only members can see the link]This version works very well, except for the TMC-issue. The TMC-issue was the same with both versions, so I concluded that this is iGo8-related.
    I am glad that with Navigon TMC seems to work like I want it to, so it is not hardware or Windows-config related.
