Standard Which XTRON unit to choose? VW Touran 2011

Hi everyone! Hope that it is okay that I write in English as my Deutsch is very basic

I have just purchased a VW Touran highline from 2011 and found that I am missing a bluetooth module in order to get the hands-free and bluetooth streaming working with the RNS 510 equipped in the car.
From what I have found that module incl. coding should cost the same as an Android HU!

Already considering an Android HU before I realized this missing bluetooth module, I have started exploring the different options with "China RNS" models. I am really fond of Android and like the ability to add reverse and front camera to the unit.

I am sorta skeptical about the quality of software, built and sound which is why I want to stick to units resold in my country, as it is easier to return within my own country.

    XTRONS PBX99MTVL
    XTRONS PQ89UNVIP
    XTRONS PB88MTVIP

One of them resembles the unit reviewed in this video: [Only members can see the link]

However, it seems like the MIC AV8V5 is more "refined" with DAB+ module built in etc...

Furthermore, is the HEXA core PX6 better than the Octa core PX5?

    Thank you in advance.

Hi, I already answered you on YouTube.

Yes, PX6 is a bit faster, see also my comparison between PX5 and PX6 on YouTube.

Hi! Yes I Saw your message on YouTube. Would you recommend the MIC over the XTRON? I believe the XTRONS PQ89UNVIP is the one that resemble the one you review in the video the most.

Additionally can you explain what adapter you are using for combined DAB and FM with the original 2pin antenna from VW? Furthermore you mention something about the radio reception and how it compares to RNS, but I didn't understand it.

I would recommend the MIC AV8V5.
Because MIC offers a very good service. Maybe your Xtrons reseller also offer a good service....

    Pro AV8V5
    -Service
    -Dynaudio Support
    -Sygic included
    -Quadlock connector
    -DAB inside
    -warranty 2 years
    -external WiFi antenna

    Cons
    -32GB internal storage
    -Price

    Pro PQ89UNVIP
    -Price
    -64GB internal storage

    Cons
    -Support?
-warranty 1 year for device, 3 months for Accessories
    - need extra dongle for DAB.

    Maybe there's some other differents.

The adapter (splitter) gives you the possibility to receive DAB through the normal antenna. Is linked in the video description.

    Thank you so much!
Just another question, the backup camera you have in your video looks to be of decent quality and works with the steering-wheel. Which camera are you using? And do you know of a similar Touran compatible one? Furthermore, I would like to mount a front camera as well. Would that be possible with the AV8V5 unit? And do you know a good one?

My camera is a cheap one for 27€, which I bought on amazon. You can't buy them anymore. It is built into the license plate light. I can't help you with the front camera, I've never tried anything like that before. I would contact the service of MIC.

Okay, so are the guidelines that turns with your steering wheel created by that camera or in the software??

I have found this unit which has 9" screen and dsp. I like that it is 1" larger (27% more screen) compared to the MIC 8". And has 64gb storage. Would you still recommend the MIC over this? [Only members can see the link]

The lines are made by the camera itself.

In the end, that's your decision.
I also bought a Dasaita PX6 with DSP and 10 inch display this year.
That had problems with interference and a bad radio reception (Stm 7708S chip). I sent it back.
Now I have a Coika PX6 (GS device). This does not have these problems. It could also be that Dasaita has already solved these problems.

I thought that the lines would be created by the camera itself, but how is it able to read when you are turning the steering wheel?

Okay, well it seems like the av8v5 is more plug'n'play with less problems. But I would really like a larger screen. Actually the Coika unit could be a solution for me as well. I am VERY keen on modifying the center piece to swap the placement of the clima control below the radio, I.E. I am not bound by a specific shame or size as I have to make my own center frame anyways.

Would you consider the Coika unit as good as the MIC? And will the canbus unit work with my car? I have narrowed my requirements down to:
PX6 chip, DSP, IPS panel, steering control.

You mean the blue lines. These lines are determined by the steering angle sensor and read out via the Canbus decoder.

The Canbus should work in your car.
My coika GS unit works really well, same as good as AV8V5.

Yes I am thinking of the blue lines that curves. I understand that the canbus decoder can fetch and interpret the wheel turning, but how is that forwarded to the camera? Most cameras I have found have one yellow RCA connector... That cannot send turning degree, right? Or am I missing something?

Okay, so the Coika unit could be a worthy candidate... That would give me a even larger screen :-) I guess all connections and canbus unit is the same no matter if it is a Touran or a Passat.

I have found that the unit is sold with a trim that replaces the factory trim because the screen is so large. Is the trim and the screen glued together or would I be able to detach the screen from the trim piece??

Where have you purchased your unit from?

The blue lines are generated by the RNS. You can add them in the settings of the RNS and just lay down over the camera image. They have nothing to do with the built-in camera.

There are 5 or 6 screws in the scope of delivery with which the frame and the device are screwed together.

    I bought it from Aliexpress.

That was what I asked in question #7, perhaps I was not clear
So the "static" lines are "made" by the camera itself and the dynamic lines are created by the Headunit through input from the canbus? Correct?

If you by any chance do not have the unit in the car, could I persuade you to take a couple of photos of the unit as well as some measurements. Would like to know where the enclosure behind the screen is situated, the size of the enclosure, and how large the screen is (top, buttom, height as well as screen thickness).

Is this the same unit as you have? [Only members can see the link]

Looks like the antenna only has one pin + one dummy, where the AV8V5 has 2 pins. Does that impact the FM reception?

    Yes.

The RNS can generate static AND steerable lines.

The most camera's can also generate static lines. All that three lines, the two of the RNS and the one of the camera are on top of each other which doesn't look good.
Either you buy a camera that doesn't have its own lines or you turn off the lines of the RNS.
